Ishan Rohatgi.

Computer Science & Mathematics
at the University of Edinburgh.

I’m a first-year student interested in machine learning and the mathematics behind it. I like building things I can use, and figuring out how they work along the way.

Selected projects

01 DeafAlerts Audio & accessibility Turning everyday sounds into desktop alerts for people who are hard of hearing. Python · TensorFlow · NumPy

I used Google’s YAMnet model to classify live microphone audio and notify the user when a selected sound is detected.

Users can add or remove the sounds they want alerts for. The project also uses SciPy and Matplotlib for working with audio.

02 Blackjack Game & account system A two-deck blackjack game with persistent accounts and chip balances. Python · SQLite3 · bcrypt

I built the game using object-oriented Python, with a two-deck card system and player accounts.

SQLite stores accounts and chip balances between sessions. Passwords are salted and hashed with bcrypt.

03 Pinpoint Golf analytics A web app for logging rounds and making sense of performance on the course. TypeScript · Supabase

The app lets golfers log rounds, add courses, save stats from their rounds, and give them an overview of strengths and weaknesses of their game.

Using PGA Tour strokes gained baselines, this app is able to pinpoint which area of a golfer's game needs the most work.

04 Bughouse chess engine Cooperative games In progress Building a 2v2 chess game, with an interest in how agents learn to cooperate. Python

I’m working on a playable implementation of bughouse, a chess variant played by two teams across two boards.

Once the game is working, I plan to explore reinforcement learning through self-play. The learning agent is still a planned part of the project.
